Around the World

I was looking over the list of attendees signed up for Re:Frame Austin this morning and I was Wowed by it. There are many that will be coming as far as the other side of the planet: 6 from Australia, 1 from Lithuania, 1 from Mexico thus far. In addition I noticed a few repeats from Re:Frame New Orleans that have signed up. It is so encouraging to see event filmmakers committed in investing in their craft. I can speak for the Collective in saying that we are excited and appreciative of the trust put upon us by the attendees. This coming September, the Collective will meet in Austin for a few days to go over final prep for the New Orleans event. There are only two months left until opening day!!!

Cutaways, Part III

What's up y'all?

I've got some useful juice for ya.

I've just placed the 3rd part in the 3 part series on Cutaways in the Video Lounge.  Click here for part I, and here for part II.

Do you ever wonder how to transition your edits out of one emotion into the diametrically opposite one without resorting to a fade out/fade in?

Click here to find out how to do it with El Cutaway.

Featured Artist - William Gaff

Bill Gaff first shot weddings after he had been editing advertising, documentaries and corporate films for nearly 10 years.

His initial plan was to shoot family biography films, so he purchased the necessary production equipment.  Before he could book his first life documentary though, he received an offer to shoot his first wedding.

In order to learn how to document a wedding properly, Bill began researching the internet for ideas. He came across the work of Loi Bahn and was inspired by his shot selection and the way in which he composed his samples. In the beginning there was some trial and error in developing his own style but he loved the experience enough to completely re:tool his business plan to primarily document weddings.

In order to further refine his approach, Bill began exploring the online wedding video forums, first Video University,  and then WedFACT.

“I really feel I gained so much by just reading all the great advice people were sharing with one another.  It would have taken years for me to figure this stuff out by myself," Gaff notes.

Bill's style evolved to rely upon interviews as a primary documentary tool, telling the story of the wedding day through the voices of the people involved in that day. And while Bill admits he is not a particularly outgoing person, he is passionate about conducting his interviews and developing his interviewing style.

Go to the video lounge and view some of Gaff's work.  One of the clips is exclusive to the Re:Frame community.

Featured Artist - Lee Bakogiannakis

One of my duties is to scour the planet for talented event filmmakers. It is one of Re:Frame’s many goals, to "find, develop, and promote an exclusive list of filmmakers who will be messengers of event film making."

I first saw Lee’s work on WedFact and it was fresh. His shooting and editing style was superb. I was able to spend some time with Lee in Orlando earlier this year and he was one cool dude to hangout with. We shared our thoughts and vision and he also shared some of his clips on his notebook. For more info on Lee, go to the Video Lounge.

"Be My Rock" a video shoot/edit for Modern Bride Magazine

Check it out... the Re:Frame crew got together to produce this video that was shown at Modern Bride's Trendestter Awards a couple of weeks ago.  It's a promo for their new support forum for couples who encounter a crisis while planning their wedding.  It's such an awesome new organization and we were thrilled to be part of it.  Kristen* and Bruce flew to NYC to tape most of the interviews, Alex flew to Florida to film Jen & Nate's wedding, and I edited the piece.  You can watch the video in the VIDEO LOUNGE.  Enjoy!
